RESEARCH

A crucial part of COMMON's work is undertaking research into the current socio-economic landscape of UK theatre, to learn more about the barriers that artists from working-class backgrounds face.

Alongside pursuing our own research, we collaborate with leading cultural sociologists to support existing research into what it means to be working-class in the 21st century, and to better understand the relationship between an individual's socio-economic background and their likelihood of building a sustainable career in theatre.

We also partner with theatres, unions and other charitable organisations to undertake new research led by COMMON to gain a clearer picture of the socio-economic landscape of theatre and identify the complex barriers that working-class artists face.

COMMON GROUND: SESSION DATA

Below you can find the summarised notes FROM our previous 'common ground' events.

This includes summaries of the barriers working-class artists described facing when building careers in theatre, and their suggestions of solutions to help overcome and solve them.

Our intention is for these notes to be of use to theatres, arts organisations and theatre companies when looking to make their work and opportunities more accessible for working-class artists.
